FAQ
What is Branch Chain Amino acids (BCAA)?
Branched-chain amino acids (BCAA’s) are a group of three essential amino acids: leucine, isoleucine and valine. These Amino acids cannot be produced in our bodies and therefore must be supplemented. BCAA supplements are commonly taken in order to boost muscle growth and enhance exercise performance. They may also help with weight loss and reduce fatigue after exercise.
How much BCAA’s should I take in my normal diet?
Normally BCAA’s requirements may vary; we recommend a safe dose of 1-2g BCAA’s up to twice daily if required. Children 12-18 years of age not more than half adult dose; and children under 12 years under the direction of your medical practitioner. However a dosage level of up to 34mg/kg body weight has been recommended by World Health Organization (WHO). During pre- and post- workout this amount can be increased to 84mg/kg body weight. However a cautionary approach should be maintained at all times.
What are the benefits of consuming BCAA’s?
Among many other benefits, taking BCAA’s improves our muscle recovery rate and also promotes muscle growth. It is an important dietary supplement for the elderly population where protein consumption may not be adequate. It also helps in muscle fatigue and soreness.
What is the best way to take BCAA’s as a dietary supplement?
BCAA’s should be taken with fluids. Millenium brand BCAA’s is pure and has a very strong characteristic taste; it can also be mixed with a fruit juice of choice, milk or can be made into fruit smoothie. Drink adequate amounts of water. It may take longer to disperse in water so mix it well. Some people choose to mix it with flavoured water to enhance the taste. Alternatively use Millenium BCAA’s in Vegetable Capsules.
Is this product suitable during pregnancy?
There is not enough data available on the effects of taking amino acid supplements in pregnancy and therefore the general recommendation is that BCAA’s may not be completely safe during pregnancy and breast feeding; so Its use is recommended under strict medical advice.
Is this product suitable for diabetics?
In general amino acids are essential to our general health and wellbeing. There has been no significant study on dietary BCAA’s and the risk of diabetes (American Journal of Epidemiology, Volume 178, Issue 8, 15 October 2013, Pages 1226–1232). Use of this product is recommended with caution and common sense and under medical supervision.
